Car Alarm Remote
Not Responding to Remote
If your alarm goes blaring off at one of those awkward moments, and is not responding to the remote in your possession, first check the manual to ensure that you are following the correct procedure. You will be surprise to know, how a little distance or the direction in which you point the remote can affect its effectiveness. For some brands and makes of cars, turning on the car by using the key in the ignition will shut down the alarm. If this doesn’t work and you are following the correct procedures there may be a technical problem that needs to be addressed. However until that is possible you can take other measures to turn the alarm off.
Manual Deactivation
The alarm can also be shut down by turning off the alarm from the source. To do this, you will first need to locate the alarm’s fuse. For most cars, it is located in the fuse box, which normally can be found to the left under the steering wheel. Some cars also have more than one fuse box, with the others located in the engine section. If the alarm was installed after leaving the factory, the fuse box will be located under the hood, generally on a wire that is linked to the positive terminal of the battery.
After finding the correct fuse box, find the fuse that has the alarm labeled on it. A fuse diagram should be on the lid of the fuse boxes coming directly from the market. Alarms installed after leaving the factory will not have a label. This should not be a problem as pulling the wrong fuse will not cause any damage. All you need to do if you pull a fuse and the alarm remains on, is just to put it back and pull out another. Use the fuse puller which should be located in the fuse box to pull the fuse, or use a pair of nose pliers if one is not available. You will find that in some cases, the fuse can be removed using your fingers.
Go to the Battery
If the alarm still remains on after trying all these options then as the last resort, remove the negative terminal from the battery. This will turn the alarm off for sure, but it will also prevent your car from starting.
Whichever of the methods gives you the desired results, be sure to have a technician have a look on your car alarm system as soon as possible to have any possible problem resolved.
