Driving on the road can leave your car messy with all kinds of substances present on the road, and unfortunately tar may just be one of them.  It is more than likely that tar will be transferred to your car as a result of driving down a road that is being worked on.  If this has ever happened to you, you may be able to identify with the fact that removing tar from your car can be frustrating, annoying and in some cases expensive.  Sadly, if you decide to just leave the tar on your vehicle, you run the risk of having the paint damaged not to mention that the look of tar on your car is also very unattractive.

You Will Need

In this article, a simple, yet effective and affordable method for removing tar by using common household items is discussed.  To do this method on your tar stained vehicle, you will need clean rags along with soap and water and either butter, vegetable oil or olive oil or creamy peanut butter (not the chunky type).  Some WD-40, kerosene or mineral spirits, will also be needed if the above mentioned household items are not able to get the job done.

Instructions

To begin the removal of tar from your vehicle, use the rags along with soap and water to thoroughly clean the area of the car that has been affected by the tar.  Try to be gentle while still applying some amount of pressure when doing this.  If you use too much force, or clean the area vigorously, you may end up causing damage to the paint on car or scratch the fiberglass.  Allow the area to dry and then apply some of the creamy peanut butter, vegetable oil or olive oil or butter, which will act as the lifting agent.  These household items work to remove the tar, by softening the tar making it fairly easy to wipe away the tar using a soft clean rag.  After 24 hours of applying whichever of the mentioned household items, use a soft, clean rag to wipe the tar away from the affected area.

If the tar stain is not removed with the household items, then you will have to move a more stringent method.  This involves applying WD-40 or kerosene to the tar stained area and allowing it sit on the tar for about 5 minutes.  The tar should then be easy to remove after the 5 minutes are up.  You may need to wax the area to which the kerosene was applied after doing this, as the kerosene or WD-40 will also remove the wax from your car, because of it de-greasing nature.  So be sure to wax the area to have it looking shiny and attractive once more.

If you happen to get some tar on your car, don’t allow it to spoil your day, as you now have a very easy and effective method to remove the tar, one that you can do as soon as you get home.   This method will also proved to be very beneficial to you, as most of these tar moving agents that are used in the auto shops cannot usually be bought locally.
