Car Battery

Many people feel the need to remove their car batteries but do not actually know how to remove the car batteries. Be a do-it-yourselfer and save money by removing and replacing your car battery on your own instead of going to the mechanics. Let’s see some really easy techniques and tips to remove car battery.

Removing the battery cables

When your engine is off, open the hood and locate the battery in your car. It’s time to detach the battery cables from the battery starting with the black cable. Loosen the nuts with a twist or set of battery pliers. Twist and pull the end of the cable, if this does not work, the other way to do it is buy a terminal puller from your nearby auto parts store and pull it with this. This will prevent the damage to your car battery and cables. It’s advised not to use your screw drivers or any such tools because metal tools can damage your battery and break it off. Now detach the positive, red cable from the battery with the application of the same method that you used for removing the black negative cable. Follow with taking the battery out of the battery tray.

Removing the battery

Usually batteries are very heavy in weight. If you hold it in the wrong way, you can drop it and hurt yourself and even break the battery too. Be sure to hold it from the bottom with both the hands.

Clean the tray

There might surely be corrosion layers on the battery hold down tray, clean it with baking soda mixed with water with a metal brush. Clean the battery cable connector’s along with the tray that hold the battery and the clamp. If the soda is not effectively removing the corrosion, you can buy battery cleaning solutions from your nearby auto parts store, which is cheaper than going to the auto garages.

Putting in a new battery

Now finally put the new battery in the tray and secure your battery with the hold down clamp, attaching the positive and negative cables tightly. Check all the cables to see whether they are installed and fixed tightly and correctly. If they are not fixed properly, your car may not work at all. It can also damage your vehicle.
