Car interior need painting?

Painting of the car interior makes the faded, dull appearance of the car interior look new. One of the other obvious reasons for car interior painting is to match the new custom paint job on the outside.

Materials and tools required:

  • Soap Solution
  • Towels or rags
  • Primer
  • Paint
  • Clear coat
  • Screwdriver

Preparing the car for interior painting:

Preparing the car for interior painting is a tedious but a very important process prior to initiation of painting the car interior. This activity avoids the over-spraying of the paint and thus ensures a smooth application of the paint. Begin the process by removing the dashboard – i.e. all the knobs, dials, switches, buttons, trim, etc. that are available on the dashboard. Clean the parts you wish to paint using warm soapy water and then rinse these parts using clean water. Allow these interior parts to dry by placing them in open air or by using a blow dryer. Using a blow dryer is generally preferred to dry those parts which are difficult to reach. Electronic parts can be cleaned using damp cloth.

If there are any interior parts which are non-detachable or difficult to remove, then these can be covered by plastic sheets in order to avoid any messy paint spills.

Painting the interior:

Using soap water solution, clean the dash and other areas you wish to paint. Once done, remove the soapy residue by using clean water and a towel. Dry the dash using a towel or a blow dryer. Before initiation of the painting, make sure that all the parts which do not need painting are properly taped, especially the windows. Begin with the application of the primer on the required parts. The primer will help the paint adhere to surface. Once the primer has dried completely, paint the dash and the other required parts. The paint should be applied in thin coats. Use only the paints designed for plastic or vinyl or for leather. Allow the paint to dry for almost 24 hours so that there are no chips or cracks observed on the paint. If desired you may also give another coating with the base coating.

After Painting:

Once the base paint coat has dried, you may also apply the clear coat to give a finishing touch to your interior paint. The clear coat can be applied in the similar way like base coat. A clear coat adds gloss and protects the paint.

Reinstalling the parts:

Reinstall all the parts that you removed taking care that none of them chip the paint.

Car interior painting improves the appearance of the car interiors and gives it a new life. Car interior painting revitalizes the faded interior pieces and imparts a vibrant color to it. In order to keep the interior paint on your dash lasting for years, you can also use the window sun blocker which prevents the chipping or cracking of the paint due to sun’s harmful radiation.
