Drifting

We have seen the act of drifting a car portrayed in the movies, Hollywood has done a wonderful job in bringing the art of this to the attention of people all over the country. It looks a lot harder than it really is. Almost anyone can drift a car if they know what they are doing. The origins of drifting are not clear; many people believe that drifting got its start in the Eastern countries such as China. This art has caught on like wildfire and everywhere you turn, you can see a person drifting when they are driving. We have even seen this long before it caught on in such popularity in the United States. In fact police departments have taught this to their officers in their defensive driving courses for years. Let's face it when we see a police car turn a corner and the back-end slides a little while the front stays pointed forward we are just in awe. This article will hopefully teach you the technique to this in a few easy to follow steps.

The first thing that you will need is of course a car, now we are not talking about your grandmothers Toyota, the type of car that will work best for drifting will need to meet certain requirements. It needs to be a manual transmission car. While this can be done with an automatic, it is not as easy and not as effective to accomplish. Now after you have acquired the car for your drifting, the next part of the first step is to make sure that you have plenty of tires that you can afford to wear out. You will go through a lot of tires while you practice to get it right. You will need a place that is legal, safe and wide open upon which your craft can be practiced upon. Finding a place that meets these requirements will be a little of a challenge.

Now you are ready to move on to step two of how to drift. You can now begin by trying some small doughnuts at the beginning. Many people make the mistake that they try taking on the beast as soon as they feel they are ready. The best approach is to simply begin doing small doughnuts, then move up to the bigger ones and keep getting bigger and bigger. Now you are ready to really show off. Turn right, then make it a point that you quickly go to the left then back to the right. While you are still not truly drifting, you are getting the feel of your car.

Finally it is time for you to go big in your efforts. Part of what makes drifting such a success is the relationship that you have with your car. The key to doing a successful drift is being able to feel your car out. The car will let you know when it is ready for you to drift. When you do the first drift, let the car tell you what is going on, the feel of the steering wheel will be the trick to getting the art of drifting down with little to no problems. Now that you have the basic rules that you need, it is time to put these to the test and try your hand at drifting.
